Fall Class Descriptions 2025

Fall Session 1: Sept 2-Oct 11
Fall Session 2: Oct 21-Dec 6 (no classes Thanksgiving week)

Art Exploration (ages 2-4)
For our youngest artists, we center our curriculum around children’s literature. Each class includes an invitation - a short activity introducing children to the concept or material we’ll be working with that day, an interactive story, and a process-based project tied to the story exploring paint, glue, collage or sculpting materials. Each class includes 30 minutes in our sensory room for open play. Caregiver attends with child and is encouraged to assist when needed while giving the child freedom to guide the experience and make their own art artistic choices. Great bonding time with your little one, with no stress and no clean up!
Instructor: Lia Salza

Fiber Fridays: Machine Sewing Basics (ages 9-12)
This Friday club focuses on fiber based projects that develop individual creativity and maker skills. Working with fabric and yarn is satisfying, confidence-building, and relaxing. We’ll cover hand sewing techniques including embroidery, as well as basic machine sewing, including threading the machine, planning out construction, and expanding maker skills for projects that are personal and practical. Great way to end a busy week!

Fall Session 1 will examine the bright and colorful iconic prints of the Finnish design house Marimekko. Through stamping and printing we will make our own versions then use them to construct a double walled tote bag perfect for the start of the new school year. Stitchers will learn the basics of fabric design, patterning and construction through machine sewing and hand embroidery.

Fall Session 2 will explore the Korean folk belief that keeping something wrapped and protected meant good luck. They created fabric patchwork squares called Bojagi (Pojagi) using scraps of cotton, silk and other materials. Stitchers will learn machine basics in cutting and piecing fabrics in a pattern as well as explorations in hand embroidery to create their own Bojagi.

Elementary Art: Draw + Paint (ages 5-7)
For kids who love to draw, this class will give an imaginative prompt for creating scenes and characters with pencils, pastels, watercolors and paint.
Instructor: Martina Loncar

Elementary Art: Mixed Media (ages 5-7)
Blending materials adds layers and depth. We'll use paint, pastels, collage, fabric, and other materials that enhance the work. This class is all about layers and variety, and encourages kids to explore new media!
Instructor: Martina Loncar

Elementary Art: Sculpt + Build (ages 5-7)
Art in three dimensions for kids who love building, constructing and making models. We'll use a variety of materials: wire, clay, and papier mache.
Instructor: Martina Loncar

Elementary Art: Thread + Weave (ages 5-7)
This class uses fiber (yarn, thread and fabric) to create unique projects with depth and texture. Fiber arts offer a meditative activity that quiets active minds and focuses energy.
Instructor: Martina Loncar

Elementary Art: Print + Press (ages 5-7)
Printmaking uses various techniques to create repeated shapes and patterns. We'll make our own stamps, monoprints, and more!

Traveling Crafters (ages 7-10)
This art course teaches the elements of art and the principles of design through the exploration of world handicrafts. The course will highlight how communities express themselves and their cultures with local materials. Our cultural focus will be Australia for Fall Session 1. We will learn about the Tjanpi Desert Weavers and other aboriginal artists who preserve their culture through their sculptures and dot paintings. For Fall Session 2, we will migrate south like the Monarchs in winter to explore the bright colors and animal spirits that make up a large part of the Mexican culture. We will sculpt our own Oaxacan alebrijes out of paper and pulp and create an altar from tin sculpting and paper cutting.
Instructor: Meg Ryan

Little Stitchers (ages 7-10)
Felt is the perfect material for little stitchers! This intro to sewing class focuses on basic skills like tying knots and threading needles, while creating little felt friends: birds during the first session and succulents later in the fall. Handsewing builds confidence and skills as kids get ready for machine sewing classes later. For Fall Session 1, we’ll make moth/lantern fly felt stuffies. In Fall Session 2 will focus on felt moon pillows with texture stitching, glow in dark materials, and night sky constellations.
